“The possibilities of thought training are infinite, its consequences eternal, and yet few take pains to direct their thinking into channels that will do them good, but instead leave them all to chance.” - Brice Marden
This is one of my favourite quotes. I use it in the hope that it will jolt people into deciding to be one of the few people that do direct their thinking.
At the end of the day it’s all about learning how to master yourself – but can we master ourselves enough to succeed and can we overcome the inner resistance that we all seem to have?

When I start a coaching exercise with a client, I invariably start discussing their Life Sentences. This is because (and you will know this if you have read my previous articles or book) I believe that Life Sentences are at the bottom of many if not all of the things going on in our lives.
The thing is, to my mind, there is not much point in directly going into other sections of personal growth with a client such as setting goals and find his/her purpose etc. if he has a whole bunch of bondages messing up his/her life and keeping him from obtaining everything else in the first place.

During a coaching session I had recently I saw my client’s face drop when I pointed out some “Life Sentences” that she has in her life. Some people get quite discouraged when they discover that they have Life Sentences or any other form of emotional hurts or bondage. They don’t often enjoy having to admit it, sort out their lives or to face challenges or difficulties.
I would like to share with you a dialogue between two characters in the popular movie; Little Miss Sunshine. Please excuse the slight strong language -it gets the point across.
